Kirk Cousins "Can Do Better"

Can He, Though?

Head Coach Mike Zimmer said about Kirk Cousins‘ miserable performance against the Green Bay Packers: “He can do better.”

Maybe not, as these stats dug up by The Athletic‘s Chad Graff would appear to indicate:

The first: The Vikings averaged more yards per rush (7.24) than they averaged per pass attempt (7.18) [against Green Bay].

The other is most astounding with the context of the last 10 years. In that time, teams are 112-13 when they gain more than 7 yards per play and keep their opposition under 5 yards per play. On Sunday, the Vikings did that. And they still lost. Most concerning about that: Cousins was the quarterback in three of those 13 losses.

What to make of this Vikings offense? Two weeks in, it’s Cook over Cousins

And then there’s this from Steve Palazzolo of Pro Football Focus: Kirk Cousins has the fourth highest percentage of uncatchable passes in the league so far this year. On only 42 attempts.
